Burgers are one of my favorite meals to make for dinner or friends. And so many friends who tried this burger recipe have been making it ever since!

So believe it or not, homemade burgers are a snap to prepare, fool proof and you can really flavor them in many different ways depending on how you spice them and what toppings you have on hand to use.

This Juicy Burger with Fajita Toppings and these Cheese Stuffed Burgers With Onions And Mushrooms are another absolute dream burger recipe to make!

MUSHROOM SWISS BURGER

This is a mouthwatering mushroom swiss burger recipe that’s juicy and packed with flavor. A classic combo that is super easy to make at home as you can see from the video!

While some may add sauteed onions to this burger recipe and all sorts of condiments to the bread, I’m keeping it simple and basic here. At that point you’ll have the choice to kick it up and play around with flavors as much as you like!

So there are a few components to the recipe. The seasoning for your burgers is first.

Burger Seasoning

  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Onion Powder
  • garlic Powder
  • Dried rosemary leaves

While the rosemary is optional and can be substituted with oregano or completely left out, I strongly recommend it! There’s something about rosemary, mushroom and Swiss cheese that’s uneatable!

I always add dry spice only to flavor my burgers since I don’t want chunks of garlic or any ingredients to over power. Also I know that some prefer a simple salt and pepper only spice so if you’re one of those, feel free to do that.

However, this burger seasoning has been so popular and everyone who’s tried it never went back and that’s why I urge you to make it as is before swapping any ingredient around!

Now let’s get to the details of the recipe.

MUSHROOM SWISS BURGER RECIPE

So again I’m sharing the good old classic version of a Mushroom Swiss burger recipe and I leave it up to you to jazz it up if you’d like to!

Ingredients for Mushroom Swiss Burger Recipe

  • Beef : Use lean or extra lean to your taste, however lean is always better for burgers. Try not to over work the meat at all.

  • Mushrooms: Use your favorite type here. I probably haven’t used white mushrooms in a while because I prefer the cremini (small brown button mushrooms) in terms of flavor.

  • Swiss Cheese: Well, it’s a Swiss cheese burger. Use Gruyere or any type of Swiss cheese you prefer, and buy them pre-sliced for ease.

  • Burger Buns. I’ve used brioche buns here, but I’ve had this recipe made with an older set of photos  using my homemade  Soft Burger Buns

While we’re still speaking of buns, I also toasted my brioche buns. This is an extra step definitely but TOTALLY worth your extra 2 minutes of time!

The best thing about this recipe is that we’re using one skillet start to finish. That same skillet you’ll use to toast the buns, sautee the mushrooms and cook the burgers in. So why not toast your brioche buns

Here’s a photo using my homemade burger buns which I shape larger than the store bought buns.

HOW TO MAKE MUSHROOM SWISS BURGERS

Take a nice heavy skillet and preheat it over medium high heat.

Toast your buns with butter cut side down until slightly toasty.

Remove the buns from the skillet and add in a tablespoon of butter, and then add the sliced mushrooms. Here’s where you would also add shallots or onions if you wanted to.

In the meantime you’ll shape the seasoned ground beef into burger patties.

If you have one of those burger makers then use it, otherwise shape them by hand.

Add olive oil or butter to your preheated skillet and don’t over crowd your skillet when cooking the burger patties.

Once the patties are cooked, flip and cook until ready, repeat with the remaining patties.

Now add the mushrooms over the cooked burger to look like a mushroom burger.

Add a slice of Swiss cheese or two over each burger and turn off the heat. Place a lid over the pan and this allows the cheese to melt so beautifully!

Assemble the burger

Spread your favorite condiment on the brioche buns. I use garlic mayo. A truffle mayo or just plain mayo is great here. If you want ketchup, mustard or anything else, feel free to add it.

Over that I add red onions, shallot or tomatoes if you’d like.

Finally, I love some greens on my mushroom swiss burger recipe, so I add arugula.

Burger goes on top and it’s ready!

Served with french fries for a terrific meal! YUM!

This crazy delicious stack of burgers is every burger lovers dream! You need to make this recipe!  I can’t see a better, easier or faster way of making this all time favorite dinner!

MUSHROOM SWISS BURGER TIPS

  • Lean ground beef is always better than extra lean because burgers can accommodate some fat, however go with what suits you the most.
  • Season the ground beef with dried spice only, avoid chunks of herbs, garlic or onions, or any veggies in the meat.
  • Shape the burger patties using your hand or a burger maker for easier more uniform burgers.
  • Toast the brioche buns for another level of crunch and flavor.
  • Use the same skillet for the whole recipe.
  • Pick your favorite mushrooms to use here and slice them to the same thickness.
  • Make sure not to overcook your burgers, so just about 3-5 minutes per side. However if you’re cooking a really thick burger, you may need to cover the skillet after flipping and cook the burgers covered.
  • While one slice of Swiss cheese is enough, cheese lovers should probably use at least 2, if not 3 slices.
  • Add the mushrooms and cheese as the final step once all the burgers have cooked, and turn off the heat.
  • make sure to cover the skillet or tent the burgers with foil if your skillet doesn’t have a lid. This allows the cheese to melt.
  • Spread your favorite condiments and use your favorite toppings on the burger buns.
  • Enjoy right away!
